Flames shutdown Knights 1-0

New Rochelle, NY -- The Flames’ defense held the Knights scoreless for 1-0 win for their final home game of the season. The Brooklyn Knights (6-4-3) are in 4th place in the division and are in playoff contention. The Westchester Flames (2-8-3) slimed the Knights’ playoff hopes and salvaged some pride Saturday night.

Fordham’s John Niyonsaba attained his 3rd goal of the season when he put a beautiful untouched shot in the top left corner and scored in the 4th minute. That’s all the scoring the Flames would need as their defense showed some heart and played tough.

The Flames also showed some good ball movement around the field which made it difficult for the Knights to gain control. There was some rough play between both teams, but that’s what you get in a rivalry match.

Then in the 62nd minute, a hard slide tackle from the Knights caused a slight scuffle and each team exchanged words with each other. Flames goalkeeper Dario Cabanas had another remarkable game putting up five saves and making key defensive plays. With strong defense by Flames’ Tom Clements, the Knights had trouble scoring and could not recover.

“I’m happy with today’s win, the young players that I put in today came through……..we were the better team on the field and we deserved to win today” said Flames head coach Gus Skoufis.

The Flames will conclude the season on the road, as they go against 1st place Long Island Roughriders on Wednesday and head to Rhode Island to face the Stingrays on Saturday.
