Flames to Host Northern Virginia Royals

For Immediate Release:

New Rochelle, NY - May 19, 2004) - The Westchester Flames hope to continue their winning ways when they play host to the Northern Virginia Royals, Saturday, May 22, 5:30 p.m., at City Park Stadium, New Rochelle, NY. This will be the only meeting of the two teams in 2004.

Northern Virginia, (0-6-0, 0 points), who hosted the Flames in 2003, is coming off a near win against the league-leading Charlotte Eagles last Saturday, taking them to golden goal. The Flames, (1-1-2, 5 points), will be looking to build on the momentum created with their 4-1 win over Long Island, also last Saturday. In 2003, the Royals won 1-0, in a controversial goal in the 69th minute.

According to coach Gus Skoufis, "We're on a tremendous high after defeating Long Island. Building on this win is important. It's vital that the players don't have any kind of mental letdowns this week. The Royals are dangerous team because they're due for a win. We don't want it to be against us."

Now out of US Open Cup contention, the Flames will pour all their attention into getting back to the championship game. The Northern Division (New Hampshire, Westchester and Western Mass) is once again looking to be the 'group of death' as the three teams are all within one point of each other, with the Flames currently in 3rd place. Both Western Mass and New Hampshire have a game in hand. The Flames play each team three times this season.

The gates will open at 4:30 PM, with tickets going on sale at that time. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for children under 16. For more information, call 888-W-FLAMES (935-2637). Snacks and drinks are available at the field, along with new Flames merchandise. Be sure to come by and see what we have to offer.

In additional news, the Flames, once again, had two players named to the USL Pro Soccer League Team of the Week. Forward Costea Decu and defender Mersim Beskovic were so honored. This is the fourth consecutive week for the Flames to have a player named to the list.
