Knights, Flames in 1-1 draw

Maspeth, Queens -- For the second time in as many home games the Brooklyn Knights came away with a stalemate as they played the Westchester Flames to a 1-1 draw in Premier Development League action aat the Metropolitan Oval on Wednesday night.

The Flames (0-0-2) got on the board early with a cross from Michael Konicoff to the foot of Josh Trott in the seventh minute past Knights goalkeeper Chris Antonino.

Three minutes later the Knights (1-0-2) capitalized on the Flames' inability to clear the ball and connected on a corner kick. Frank Alesci’s kick found the far post to Sebastian Alvarado for his first goal of the season.

The Knights (1-0-2) again outshot their opponents 16-10.

“We played well once again," Knights coach Giuseppe Balsamo said. "We will be much better come Sunday. The early season jitters are out now and we can compete with a good New Hampshire club.”

Late in the match the Knights went to their bench to add spark to the line-up with Long Island University forwards Mohammed Mashriqi and Ryan Williams coming on for the final attack and taking the last four shots. The backline of Javier Gonzales, Arman Osooli and Tomasz Groch continued to play well.

Westchester hosts the New Hampshire Phantoms in its home opener at McKenna Field at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
