Charlie Davies Named to U.S. Olympic Soccer Team

Charlie Davies Named to U.S. Olympic Soccer Team Former Boston College Eagle and Westchester Flame is one of four forwards on U.S. roster.

Charlie Davies, who starred on the Boston College soccer team from 2004-06, has been selected as one of 18 players who will represent the United States at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The announcement was made by U.S. Men's Olympic Team head coach Peter Nowak.

Davies, now 22 years old, left BC after his junior season and signed a professional contract to play in the Swedish first division with Hammarby IF. Davies also played for the Westchester Flames that reached the National semi-final in 2006. Davies is one of four forwards on the U.S. Olympic Team roster. Davies is joined in the attack by Jozy Altidore, Brian McBride and Robbie Rogers. Rogers played one season (2005) at the University of Maryland.

The U.S. team will begin its final preparations for the Beijing Games on Sunday, July 20, with six days of training in San Jose, Calif. The team will then depart for Hong Kong, where it will participate in the ING Cup, facing Ivory Coast (July 30) and Cameroon (August 2).
